One more day to soak up island atmosphere

Patsy Weekley, the mother of two-time defending Verizon Heritage champion Boo Weekley, will be following her son around Harbour Town Golf Links this week. She is sharing her experience with The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette with a daily Heritage diary.

Well, Boo isn't going to be in the final group on Sunday this time, but it was still a wonderful day. This is just such a fantastic tournament. I'm sure the players and their families just love coming here because of the hospitality.

I got chill bumps several times Saturday when he was making the birdies. When he got to 4 under for the tournament, it was starting to feel like he was going to make a run at it.

It was tough when he hit that shot in the water on No. 14 and made double bogey, but that's golf. Everybody can't be perfect. But as a mother, you feel for him because you know how he must be feeling.

Even though I love to follow Boo during his rounds, I can't hardly watch a lot of the time. Sometimes I watch him to see if he twirls the club or stays back and watches the shot, and then I know it's going to be pretty good. I'm very selective about when I watch, so I usually just listen to the crowd's reaction to find out how he's doing.

A lot of people noticed the bright orange hat Boo was wearing Saturday and they were asking about where they could get one. I always let people know if they buy merchandise from BooWeekley.com a percentage goes to his charities. That's another way that he's trying to give back, because he feels so fortunate to have the chance to do that.

I hope people will go on there and read about his charities, even if they don't end up buying anything.

It's nice to have so much family and so many friends here this week. We have probably about 20 people here, including Boo's aunt and uncle, and I know Boo is enjoying that. He likes being able to show all his friends what a neat place this is.

I'm looking forward to spending one more day here.
