We're itchin' for a weekend surge

Patsy Weekley, the mother of two-time defending Verizon Heritage champion Boo Weekley, will be following her son around Harbour Town Golf Links this week. She is sharing her experience with The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette with a daily Heritage diary. It was kind of a tough day for Boo, shooting 4 over on the front nine, but he was able to pull it together on the back nine and play better. For a while there, it was pretty scary for me, and I'm sure his stomach was flipping, too.I actually wasn't there on No. 9 when he made the double bogey, because I had gone into the hospitality room, so I said, "Don't worry, buddy, from now on mother is not leaving you. I'm staying right here." I guess it worked, because he started making some birdies on the back nine. That was really the highlight of the day, with the back-to-back birdies at 12 and 13 and another one at 15.I sure am glad he's going to make the cut, and I'm looking forward to the weekend. Some of our friends from back home and some of Boo's high school friends came down Friday, and they were joking about how many people come up and talk to me and calling me the "queen bee," but I think I like "queen mother" better.I had a hard time sleeping again last night, so I woke up and flipped on the Golf Channel just in time to see the highlight of Boo chipping in for eagle in the first round, so that was perfect timing. I think what's been keeping me up at night is the past two nights I've had a little skin irritation from the grass or something. If my husband was here, his diagnosis would probably be like "Verizon Tartanitis" and he would prescribe some Benadryl and two more days of walking and the last group on Sunday, and surely that would take care of it.
