A good day to relax before the upcoming challenge

Beaufort native Mark Anderson grew up dreaming of playing in the Verizon Heritage. By winning the Players Amateur at Belfair last summer, he earned that chance. He is sharing his experience with The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette with a daily Heritage diary.Since I wasn't in the pro-am or playing a practice round, I had the chance to sleep in and take it pretty easy today. I went for a run on the beach to get loosened up, and then after dropping off some tickets for friends at will call, I got up to the golf course around 10 a.m. In between the pro-am groups, I went out to the course and hit golf balls for about 40 minutes. Then, my caddie and good friend, Corey Johnson, went out with me to watch Pete Dehebread play a few holes in the pro-am since I'm staying with him this week. We got to watch Steve Spurrier play some, too. I've seen him hit it before and I've heard good things. He's pretty solid out there.Once everything cleared out, I hit some balls on the range and putted a bit. Like the other days, I felt pretty solid out there with my game. Even though it's a PGA event, preparing for this tournament isn't really that much different for me. I've had thousands of eves before the first round of an event, so I'm approaching this the same way.I think the key for me on Thursday will be to keep my rhythm out there. I have to make sure everything keeps and my timing is good, because with all the adrenaline and everything else going on, it's easy to get too quick with your shots. As far as my tee times, it usually doesn't matter to me when I play. I do like how I get to play later the first day (1:40 p.m. tee time at No. 10) and earlier the next (9 a.m. tee time at No. 10) because it gives me a chance to get a good rhythm going. And if I don't play well the first day, I can get back into things early on the second day. It's supposed to be pretty windy Thursday, so I can get those conditions behind me, even though everybody will have to play into the wind on one of those days. All in all, today was a pretty easy day, and after practicing hard for the last few days, it's good to relax a bit before things get going Thursday.
