Although there is little chance this year's Verizon Heritage tournament will sell out, lots of folks have been buying up tickets in the first two days of the PGA Tour event, a tournament official said.
"We're still selling," Wilmot said. "We really had a nice turnout Monday for the opening ceremony. There are a lot of people in the community who come to this tournament to be a part of the history."
Tournament officials said they did not know how many badges are still available.
The Verizon Heritage stopped selling daily passes about 15 years ago, in large part because of limited parking. Only weekly passes are for sale.
"We're sticking to our guns on that," Wilmot said.
As the PGA Tour event heads into the weekend, crowds are traditionally strong, so selling tickets just for Friday, Saturday or Sunday isn't a good option because there isn't enough parking, Wilmot said.
Also, tournament officials fear that if they sell day passes at the last moment to boost overall sales, it would upset those who've already bought their weeklong badges and discourage people from buying them again next year, said Angela McSwain, the tournament's marketing manager.
The Heritage has sold out four of the past six years.
