It's smooth sailing so far in my Heritage debut

Beaufort native Mark Anderson grew up dreaming of playing in the Verizon Heritage. By winning the Players Amateur at Belfair last summer, he earned that chance. He is sharing his experience with The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette with a daily Heritage diary.

I got a beautiful night's sleep. I woke up and had some Honey Nut Cheerios for breakfast. Good stuff. Then, after breakfast, I went down to the beach, because I'm staying at the beach this week, just to check everything out. It was nice to get out there.

I got to the course about 9:30 and putted around for a while and hit some chips. Then I waited for Boo Weekley and Glen Day (1999 Heritage champion) and Joe Durant to tee off. Boo and I have planned on playing together in a practice round since media day. The other guys joined us this afternoon, and we played the back nine. It was my first time playing with them. We had a great time out there. We were all laughing out there, telling some jokes. It was real relaxing and a lot of fun. Boo is a good guy. There was no pressure on me or anything like that today. I was just able to go out there and have fun.

I hit it really well. I thought I hit it solid Monday and then I hit it solid again today. I think it's just going to be a matter of making some putts. The wind was blowing in a different direction today than what I'm used to playing when I'm out here. For example, No. 18 is a straight downwind, which I haven't played in a long time. I got to see a few different things. It's nice to play the course in different conditions. It's going to prepare me for the week ahead. And I found some things out about how to play with the conditions. I was able to still hit some great shots, so I'm pleased with the day.

I ended the day by signing a bunch of autographs for fans after No. 18, which is fun. It's cool. I'm not intimidated by it at all. It's just part of the job now.
