Palmetto Dunes will be busy during Heritage week

The Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort is out to prove Heritage Week isn't confined to Harbour Town Golf Links.

In conjunction with the Verizon Heritage, Palmetto Dunes will hold three days of festivities, featuring guest appearances by PGA Tour professionals and manufacturer demos. All events are free and open to the public.

The action begins Monday with an exhibition by World RE/MAX Long Drive Championship finalist Eric Lastowka on the Robert Trent Jones Course from 10 a.m. to noon, and an exhibition of the Segway X2 personal golf transporter and the Coolwell air-conditioned golf cart from 1 to 3 p.m.

On Tuesday, the resort will play host to a custom club-fitting exhibition from 9 a.m. to noon, featuring clubs by Nike, Taylor Made, Callaway, Cobra, Titleist and Srixon. Also from

9 a.m. to noon, there will be an exhibition featuring shoes from Adidas, Nike and Callaway. From 1 to 3 p.m. that afternoon, 2004 Heritage champion Stewart Cink will put on a range demonstration and sign autographs.

On Wednesday, things get started with the "Birdie Ball Target Contest" from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the George Fazio Golf Course. Winners will receive gift certificates to the Palmetto Dunes Golf Shops. The "Hole-In-One Shootout" is set for 2 p.m. at the Fazio course, where amateur golfers can shoot for a new BMW 328i. The "Segway Shootout" is set for 1 to 3 p.m. at the Jones course, followed by the Odyssey putting contest from 3 to 4:45 p.m. and an exhibition and autograph signing by eight-time PGA Tour winner Fred Funk from 5 to 7 p.m.
