WHAT PGA Tour golfer set a course record this week? Matt Kuchar, although he didn’t do it at Harbour Town Golf Links. Kuchar and fellow pro Parker McLachlin played at Daufuskie Island’s Haig Point on Wednesday and Kuchar shot a 71 from the tips of the newly-renovated Calibogue Course, according to club general manager Mark Nordman. Kuchar also held the course record on Belfair’s West Course when he shot a 64 in the opening round of the 2000 Players Amateur. That record stood just one day — his Georgia Tech teammate Matt Weibring shot a 63 the next day.

WHY were members of USC Beaufort’s golf team at Harbour Town Golf Links Thursday? To watch golf, of course, but they also had an assignment from coach Gavin Grenville-Wood. Each golfer was assigned to follow a PGA Tour pro and submit a report on such subjects as their shot selection, demeanor and other aspects of their game. By the way, freshman William Robbins was assigned to follow defending champion Boo Weekley.
